Mice prefer warm, cozy areas with plenty of food, such as inside your home. Mice prefer gloomy places to live, such as inside air ducts and wall cavities. And when there’s one mouse, there are probably more. Here’s why having a mouse problem is worse than you imagined.
Here’s how to get rid of a mouse in a wall
- Place snap traps along the bottom borders of the walls where you have heard mice.
- Set the traps with the food-baited ends facing the wall, near any small openings that could be the mouse’s entryway.
- Avoid using poison because the effects are delayed, and you may wind up with a d3ad mouse in your walls.
If you can see that there is more than one mouse.
Victor, a rodent management expert, points out that mice can infiltrate inside your home and become stuck inside wall cavities. If this occurs, follow the company’s guidelines.
- Drill a nickel-sized hole in your wall, only a few inches above the floor. Mice can squeeze through openings the size of a dime.
- Add another hole to the side of a cardboard box, place a baited mouse trap inside, and cover the top with transparent plastic wrap.
- Secure the box to the wall.
- Check the box on a regular basis to see whether any mice have taken the bait.
- Repeat until there is no sign of mice in your walls.
To keep mice out of your walls, caulk any little openings they can squeeze into. Check for holes in vents, ducts, window frames, and the roof.
