BREAKING: MOTORCYCLE RIDER MISSING AFTER FA.LLING INTO ‘DE.ATH HO.LE’

VIETNAM – A person and a vehicle plunged into a d:eath h:ole in Na Ri district. The authorities have searched for the victim but have not found any results.

According to information from the People’s Committee of Na Ri district (Bac Kan province), at around 9:00 p.m. on May 26, in Kim Lu commune, an incident occurred in which a person and a motorbike fell into a “death hole”.

According to local people, the rider (identity and number of people on the vehicle have not been determined) was traveling in the direction of Bac Kan – Lang Son, possibly riding at high speed and crashing into an area that was fenced off, warning of danger due to a large sinkhole. Then, both the person and the motorbike fell into the deep hole.

Immediately after receiving the news, the Na Ri District People’s Committee urgently directed forces including soldiers, police and local militia to search and rescue for more than 3 hours at night.

However, the rescue work encountered many difficulties due to the very deep hole, with signs of dangerous underground water caves underneath.

On the other hand, the local forces did not have specialized, modern equipment, so the search was not successful and had to be temporarily stopped.

The Na Ri District People’s Committee contacted the road management unit under the Department of Construction to report to the Provincial People’s Committee, requesting support for specialized forces and vehicles to serve the rescue work. At the same time, the local government directed the erection of a barrier to protect the scene and assigned forces to be on duty there.

The search and rescue work continued this morning (May 27) with the participation of specialized forces from the province.

Previously, as VietNamNet reported, from the end of March 2025 until now, 7 dangerous sinkholes have appeared in succession in Kim Lu commune. The ‘death hole’ on National Highway 3B alone is at risk of affecting about 21 households. Na Ri district has made plans to evacuate people to a safe place if their lives and property are affected.

On the morning of May 27, Mr. Luong Thanh Loc – Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Na Ri district (Bac Kan province) said that the authorities are still trying to find the victims. Immediately after receiving the news, the district mobilized more than 20 officers and soldiers, including the army, police and local militia, to rescue. The search lasted more than 3 hours at night.

However, according to Mr. Loc, the area where the incident occurred has very complex terrain: the sinkhole is more than 10m deep, with many underground water caves underneath, posing a high risk of insecurity. The lack of specialized and modern equipment has caused many difficulties for the rescue work.

As of 10:00 a.m. this morning (May 27), the search work is still being carried out by the functional forces of Bac Kan province, however, the victim has not yet been found.
