Prince William and Kate’s family ‘grows’ as they ‘make decision’ following ‘tough’ time

After a year marked by health worries and intense public attention, the Prince and Princess of Wales have a joyful update to share — their cherished family dog, Orla, has recently welcomed a litter of puppies.

A newly released photo, posted on June 21 in celebration of Prince William’s 43rd birthday, captured hearts around the world.

In the picture, the future king is happily surrounded by three adorable puppies, sparking an outpouring of affection from royal fans online.

The lighthearted birthday message read: “Happy Birthday! Love, C, G, C, L, Orla and the puppies!” — a sweet greeting from Kate, along with their children George, Charlotte, and Louis, and, of course, their beloved canine companions.

Orla’s Story and the Family’s Spaniel Affection

Orla, an English Cocker Spaniel, joined the Wales household in 2020 as a gift from Kate’s younger brother, James Middleton, who is passionate about dogs and animal welfare. Years later, Orla has now brought new life into the family with a litter of four puppies.

According to The Sun, the family might plan to keep one of the pups, to the delight of their children.

For George, Charlotte, and Louis, this means a happy new chapter filled with wagging tails, tiny paws, and unconditional love — something every child and adult treasures.

A Breed Close to the Royals’ Hearts

The English Cocker Spaniel is known for its affectionate nature and joyful energy, making them a perfect fit for a lively family.

William and Kate have long loved the breed, having previously had a Cocker Spaniel named Lupo. Sadly, Lupo passed away in late 2020 after many years of loyal companionship.

In that sense, Orla’s puppies carry on the couple’s deep bond with the breed, as well as keeping Lupo’s memory alive.

More Than Puppies: A Comfort in Difficult Times

Royal commentator Rebecca English suggested that Orla’s timing in having puppies may have been especially meaningful.

With Princess Kate’s ongoing recovery from cancer and the emotional challenges it has brought the family — particularly for the children — raising puppies has been a comforting and uplifting distraction.

“It gave the kids something positive to focus on,” English explained. “And the fact that they may keep one puppy shows just how deeply this experience has touched them.”

A Royal Tradition of Beloved Dogs

The Wales family is far from the only dog lovers among the royals. Queen Elizabeth II was famous for her love of Corgis, having owned more than 30 over her long life.

King Charles and Queen Camilla also have a soft spot for dogs — Camilla even adopted a rescue pup named Moley earlier this year.

From blue-blooded breeding to muddy paw prints, dogs have clearly remained an integral part of royal life.

And now, with a fresh litter of playful pups in the mix, it seems certain that love and laughter will continue to echo through the royal halls for years to come.
