A recent video circulating on social media has sparked renewed concern about Donald Trump’s mental sharpness after a noticeable slip during a press conference.
The former president, while criticizing President Joe Biden and Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, seemed to forget a key detail—he was the one who initially appointed Powell. Trump’s comments were intended as a dig at Biden, but they quickly backfired.
Speaking from the Oval Office earlier this week, Trump told reporters he was disappointed in Powell’s performance, blaming him for economic struggles:
“I think [Powell] is doing a terrible job, he is costing us a lot of money. We fight through it.
The country has become so successful that it doesn’t have a big impact, but it does hurt people trying to get a mortgage, people who want to buy a house.
He is a terrible Fed chair. I’m surprised he was appointed. I was surprised, frankly, that Joe Biden put him in and extended him.”
Social media users were quick to highlight the irony in Trump’s criticism—he was the one who appointed Powell back in 2018 during his own presidency.
While Biden did renew Powell’s term, the initial appointment clearly came from Trump himself.
Some viewers even speculated that Trump realized his mistake mid-sentence, as he shifted focus to criticizing Biden for reappointing Powell.
The slip has prompted criticism online, with users questioning Trump’s memory and mental fitness.
Many have referenced video clips from Trump’s presidency showing him praising Powell during his original appointment.
One Twitter user wrote,
“The man can’t even remember appointing the Fed Chair himself—yet we’re supposed to trust him with the economy, global diplomacy, and nuclear codes?
If Biden had a moment like this, it’d be a media firestorm. But Trump? Crickets. This isn’t leadership—it’s a slow-motion train wreck, and everyone’s pretending not to see it.”
Another commented,
“Trump’s failure to recall his own decision to appoint Powell is a glaring sign of cognitive decline and a disregard for truth. It’s dangerous—for the economy and for our democracy.”
One person even joked, “Damn, didn’t realize how much Trump is starting to sound like Biden.”
Another user bluntly stated, “Hard to deny this as evidence of severe mental decline!”
Despite these online concerns, Trump’s doctors have repeatedly stated that he is in good health.
Earlier this year, White House physicians publicly reaffirmed that Trump is physically and mentally fit, dismissing any speculation about cognitive issues.
