While Meghan Markle may have end royal life less than two years after marrying Prince Harry, she did still join her fair share of royal engagements and events.
Although married to a prince, Meghan appeared not always to be aware of the correct royal protocols, which was sometimes evident at her various royal appearances.
Although most of the time Harry, 40, and Meghan, 43, put on a loved-up display publicly – something they continue to do this day in America, where they now live – there was one royal event that saw the prince scold his wife. This occured during Trooping the Colour in 2019, when the family were honoring the late Queen’s official birthday.
Meghan and Harry seemed to have a tense exchange that ultimately revolved around Meghan being close to not following royal protocol during the Buckingham Palace balcony appearance at the event.
While on the balcony, Meghan maintained turning her face to the crowd to speak to her husband, with the Duchess of Sussex doing this right before the national anthem was played.
This led to Harry having to remind his wife twice to “turn around” and face the crowds, including as the anthem began to play.
The duchess looked baffled by the blunt instruction from her husband, with Judi James, a professional body language expert, speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk at the time to share how Meghan appeared to be feeling.
She said: “It’s easy to forget how much pressure Meghan might have felt herself to be under, coming from the US which has no Royal Family, and immersing herself in both her husband’s family and the more formal side of his lifestyle.”
She added: “So events like the Trooping of the Colour might have even come as a bit of a sh0ck to a woman who claims to have initially had little knowledge of skills like the curtsey.”
After quitting royal life in 2020 and moving overseas, Harry and Meghan have not stepped into the Buckingham Palace balcony.
They have also not participated in any more Trooping The Colour events, and are not predicted to make an appearance at the annual event this Saturday to mark the King’s official birthday.
the funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth in 2022 was the last event on the royal stage attended by Meghan.
