President of the United States (POTUS) Donald Trump recently took to Truth Social to share his perspective on the jet disaster near Reagan Washington Airport on January 29, 2025, around 9 p.m., local time.
He also sent another message highlighting the gravity of the issue.
According to a statement released by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), a PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ700 regional plane was approaching Runway 33 at the airport when it collided with a Sikorsky H-60 helicopter in midair.
In his first statement, Trump said the PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ700 regional plane was making a routine and precise approach to the airport.
He then noted that the chopper that the jet collided with was heading directly at the aircraft for a long period.
At the end of his statement, he stressed the gravity of the situation, stating that it could have been averted, before shouting, “NOT GOOD!!!” In his second Truth Social post, the President emphasized the impact of the incident. He addressed the public directly, saying, “God bless you all!”
Karoline Leavitt, the White House Press Secretary, also addressed the situation.
In an interview with Sean Hannity, she acknowledged the gravity of the disaster and stressed the administration’s commitment to those affected.
As the investigation into the devastating mid-air accident proceeds, news outlets stay on the ground, offering live updates as more information becomes available. According to CBS News, search efforts are continuing in the Potomac River, where the debris of two aircraft—an American Eagle Flight 5342 regional plane and an Army Black Hawk helicopter—is still strewn.
Officials revealed that the airliner had 60 passengers and four crew members, while the chopper had three military personnel on board.
Authorities have found at least 30 bodies as of 6:45 a.m. ET, according to a law enforcement source cited by CBS News.
The grim search is complicated by frigid water temps and dangerous conditions on the Potomac River.
Rescuers had not found any survivors from the three debris fields spread over the icy Potomac River at the time of publication.
Aside from the images he published on Truth Social, reports indicate that Trump alluded to the accident as “a bad situation that looks like it should have been prevented” in another social media post. However, it remained unclear whether this post was based on government briefings or another source of information.
As the present crisis unfolds, people are holding out hope for any survivors, as well as pr:aying for the families of those reported to have d.i.e.d.
