Prince William has fans in stitches with 8-word comment after Princess Kate compliment

Prince William made royal fans laugh when Princess Kate received a praise from awaiting admirers during their visit to Scotland yesterday.

The royal couple performed the traditional naming ceremony for HMS Glasgow at the BAE Systems shipyard in Scotstoun, on the banks of the River Clyde.

The 43-year-old future Queen christened HMS Glasgow by slamming a bottle of local Scottish whisky against its hull. Kate wore a blue and white £1,850 coat dress by British company Suzannah London, as well as a matching statement hat by Philip Treacy, which she originally wore at Trooping the Colour in 2024.

In footage recorded by local news outlet Clyde News, Kate was met with an adorable compliment as the couple walked past some awaiting fans.

“You’re beautiful!” exclaimed a crowd member to the princess. – with the fan being sure not to leave William out. They then cried, “You too, William!”

Clearly amused, he replied, “You don’t have to say that, don’t worry!” – a response that left fans that were present in stitches.

Earlier, in front of a gathering of several hundred BAE personnel, their families, and the 45-strong ship’s company, Kate spoke the time-honored words: “I have the pleasure to name this ship HMS Glasgow, may God bless her and all who sail on her”.

She then pressed a small red “launch” button, releasing a bottle of special single malt whisky produced by the neighboring Clydeside Distillery.

The couple’s most recent visit marked the first time Kate formally named a naval ship, after christening a new cruise ship, the Royal Princess, in 2013, a lifeboat in 2011, and a polar research ship, almost named Boaty McBoatface, in 2019.

The Princess of Wales was named HMS Glasgow’s Sponsor in June 2021, after previously serving as the Duchess of Cambridge.

HMS Glasgow is a cutting-edge Type 26 anti-submarine frigate built to protect the UK’s nuclear deterrent and aircraft carriers.
